Leisenring's Method to Building a Dubbing Rope
In the Art of Tying the Wet Fly, Leisenring has a rather descriptive tutorial on how he builds his dubbing ropes. The technique involves building the rope on his pant leg over his knee. The book dedicates about 3 pages to the tutorial with few photos. A close reading is necessary to understand the process. I was going to do a lengthy tutorial with excerpts from the pages of The Art of Tying the Wet Fly. Instead I tried my hand at a video. I think the video, with the ability to show the process in it's natural flow works better. It's not perfect but I hope it is clear in the procedure. I go slow in the video but the process is fairly quick, and once proficient, it is not difficult to build many dubbing ropes in a short amount of time. Just make sure that if you decide to build a bunch this way that you wear an old pair of pants.
