The Confidence Patterns of
Gunnar Johnson and Anders Forsling
as listed in "Flymfer"

In the early 80's, a Swedish gentleman fly fisher and illustrator by the name of Gunnar Johnson met with Pete Hidy at his home in Boise, Idaho.  Mr. Johnson had already been experimenting with generalistic emerging patterns on the waters of Scandinavia.  The two formed a close friendship and corresponded often in the following months, sharing flies and ideas.  Gunnar Johnson published quite a few articles on the Flymph and in 1989 co-authored and illustrated the book "Flymfer & andra mjukhacklade flugor" with Anders Forsling.  This book was published in Swedish and to date has never been translated.

The following section contains a list of confidence patterns taken from Gunnar and Forsling's Flymfer, 1989.   The list shows the original patterns as written in Swedish on the left and the translation on the right.  This translation is credited to International Brotherhood of the Flymph member Raymond Tucker.  Much thanks to Ray for translating this list.   Below the list you will find photos of each of the 17 patterns.  There were no photos of the patterns included in the publication.   In 2019, various members of The International Brotherhood of the Flymph tied selected patterns from the list.  Each pattern below was tied by a different member.   The tyer and the fly's name  are listed with the photos and the pattern can be found as you scroll through the list.
