Alexandru M. Horja

My name is Alexandru M. Horja and I was born in 1979 in Bucharest, Romania.  I belong to a generation that grew up inspired by the pioneering films of Oliver Edwards and Tom Rosenbauer. My obsession with the sport began at the age of 9 on the Crisul Recede River, nestled in the Apuseni Mountains of Transylvania.  Armed with a rudimentary Tenkara-style rod, I spent my childhood swinging grasshoppers and caddis larvae scavenged from beneath river stones.  This foundation naturally evolved into a lifelong passion for the wet fly.  By the age of 20, I acquired my first fly rod and targeted trout and grayling using a blend of local traditional patterns and classic English flies. My favorite pattern remains the Palmer-style wet fly which I consider one of the finest creations in fly fishing.  I believe success on the water requires more than just reading the river or a good presentation; the fly itself must possess the correct attributes and movement beneath the surface film to deceive a wary trout.  This philosophy eventually led me to the "Flymph Phenomenon", where I found a community of creative tiers dedicated to keeping the art of the wet fly alive.
